Complete your registration on-line. This will help us in knowing if you meet the initial criteria to be a ‘Potential’ sperm donor for Orian Gametes. Our customer service will contact you via email within five working days to give you an appointment for semen assessment if you pass this initial eligibility test.
You will be asked to produce a semen sample at the clinic. You will need to abstain from intercourse or masturbation for 2 – 5 days for this test. Your sample will be analysed for sperm concentration, motility, morphology and freeze/thaw stability. You will be accepted as a donor, if these results meet our criteria for a ‘sperm donor’. Your semen analysis result will be emailed to you by one of our scientific staff within 48 hours.
You will be required to have a blood draw for necessary routine blood screening tests prior to semen donations. You will also be asked to provide a urine sample for some routine tests. These tests are done to check for various infections and genetic conditions.
You will be asked to complete your lifestyle questionnaire, which should include your profile as well as all information about yours and your family medical history. This will be reviewed by the fertility consultant.
A fertility consultant will review and discuss your screening results as well as perform a physical examination. Yours as well as your family’s medical history will also be discussed to ensure that you are medically suitable to become a sperm donor.
It is mandatory at Orian Gametes, for men who are considering becoming sperm donors to have a session with our designated Fertility Counsellor. This is a platform where you can discuss all social and legal issues surrounding sperm donations. You may also attend this session along with your spouse or partners. These sessions will generally be held via Skype or Zoom.
Once all the above steps are completed, you will be ‘registered’ as a ‘Sperm Donor’ with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), who are the UK’s independent regulator of fertility treatment and research. You will now be allowed to start donating your semen samples for therapeutic use.
All semen donations must be produced at our clinic to allow the scientist to process your sample within the optimal time frame. Your identity will be confirmed every time you come to donate. You will be required to have screening tests again when you complete your course of donations.
